The Hawks in the Eastern Cape have positively linked three suspects who were involved in a shootout with police in Komani on August 29, to a foiled cash-in-transit (CIT) heist in Kamesh, Kariega the previous day.
Hawks provincial spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said various policing units including followed up on information relating to the foiled August 28 CIT heist in which a bystander was fatally wounded.
Mgolodela said the crime scene was processed and the long base delivery van (LDV) which was allegedly used in the foiled CIT was followed.
“Information about a silver and white VW Polo working in collaboration with the Isuzu in question was also confirmed. The vehicles were followed exiting Gqebeha towards Komani,” she said.
Following the shootout with police in Komani, said Mgolodela: “The suspects were positively linked to the Kamesh foiled CIT heist the previous day.”
The trio will appear in the Komani Magistrate’s Court soon.
