WHITTLESEA – Whittlesea Police arrested a 35-year-old suspect on 5 April, the same day he allegedly fatally stabbed a patron at a tavern in Upper Lahlangubo, Whittlesea.
The suspect is expected to appear before Whittlesea Magistrate’s Court on 8 April on charges of murder and attempted murder.
According to police spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, the incident occurred when the victim was socialising with friends at a tavern in Upper Lahlangubo.
The suspect allegedly entered the establishment armed with a knife, approached the victim directly, and stabbed him.
She said that following the stabbing, the suspect allegedly chased other patrons around the tavern while still wielding the knife.
“The injured victim was taken to hospital for medical attention but was declared dead on arrival,” said Mgolodela.
She said that the suspect was later arrested by police and is detained at Whittlesea Police Station.
The District Commissioner Major General Rudolph Adolph condemns this senseless killing which is indicative of a lack of humanity.
