A 53-year-old deputy principal appeared in the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday facing three counts of rape for allegedly sexually assaulting an 8-year-old learner at Bronkhorstspruit Primary School, as the Democratic Alliance launched a scathing attack on the Gauteng Department of Education’s failure to properly vet school staff.
Komani police units conducted coordinated raids on four retail establishments on February 12, seizing counterfeit goods.

KOMANI, Eastern Cape – Komani police have seized counterfeit goods worth R385 000 during coordinated raids across the Chris Hani District on 12 February.

According to police spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, these seizures occurred in several businesses within the Chris Hani District.

She said that on Thursday, 12 February, members attached to Nxuba K9, Middelburg K9, Komani Flying Squad and the Brand Investigators conducted an operation focusing on the sale of counterfeit goods at Komani.

She reported that four shops were raided where items like Smell Fresh and Doctor Toothbrushes, Louis Vuitton mats, Razor boxes, skin lightening creams, Adcodol tablets, illicit cigarettes and sex enhancement tablets were seized.

“All seized items added to a collective cash value of R385,000. All the seized items will be taken to the Counterfeit Depot in Durban for destruction,” she added.

The Chris Hani District Commissioner Major General Rudolph Adolph is pleased by the string of successes in the recovery of counterfeit goods from businesses within the district, as they have severe legal, financial and safety consequences for sellers, consumers and the country’s economy as a whole.
