KOMANI – Police in Komani are appealing for help to identify two men who died in separate incidents.

According to police spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, on 19 July 2025 at around 19:50, the body of an unknown African man was found with multiple injuries following a motor vehicle accident at Ezibeleni Road next to the railway boom gate.

She said that police are looking for his relatives before a pauper’s burial decision can be taken by the state to bury the deceased who has long been in the state mortuary without being identified.

“By the time he was found, police could not see any identification documents as there was no vehicle or anyone around the accident scene. He is of middle age, light in complexion, has brown hair, medium height and slender build with a white beard,” said Mgolodela.

“Police investigation was conducted with no luck.”

Mgolodela said that police are appealing to members of the public to assist in the identification of the deceased and can contact the investigating officer Sergeant Bonga Keva of Komani SAPS on 071 475 2168.

In another incident on 28 January, at around 18:20, Komani police received information from a community member about a body that was floating in the river next to Komani Prison towards Hewu taxi rank.

“The deceased might be in his 40s, of heavy build and dark in complexion. When he was discovered, he was slightly decomposed and the colour of his clothing items could not be recognised as his body was filled with mud,” said Mgolodela.
