Former Lukhanji Local Municipality chief whip Tembile Jocki dies

KOMANI – The previous chief whip of the former Lukhanji Local Municipality (now Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality), Tembile Jocki, passed on at Frontier Hospital in Komani on 3 February.

He was born in Tylden outside Komani on 14 July 1961.

Friend and former colleague Michael Peter said Jocki was a councillor for many years before being council chief whip deployed by the ANC.

“A political activist, a former councillor and chief whip of the former Lukhanji Local Municipality from 2000 to 2016. Tembile was a staunch activist in Queenstown (now Komani) and Lukhanji Sub Region. He served many structures of the ANC from his branch and the Sub Region,” said Peter.

Jocki, along with Peter and other former ANC leaders joined Umkhonto Wesizwe Party in 2024.

“After some time, we alongside other members were discarded from the ANC,” said Peter.

He said at an early age, Jocki worked in Johannesburg for a Communications Engineering company under Metro Rail.

“In MK, he served as a volunteer under Enoch Mgijima Sub Region. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, sisters, brothers and the whole of Amazima clan and AbaThembu nation,” said Peter.

Jocki’s memorial service will be held on 11 February in Komani and the funeral service on 14 February in Komani as well.

His interment will be conducted at Tylden, his home village.
