MALETSWAI – Two alleged drug dealers were arrested at the Vula Vala informal settlement in SAPS’ attempt to clamp down on drug-related crimes.
According to SAPS spokesperson Captain Ursula Roelofse, on Tuesday, 25 November at 17:00 while the members of the DOCC (District Operational Command Centre) were conducting crime prevention patrols and stop and search duties at Vula Vala location, they came across a suspicious man in possession of dagga.
“During the initial investigation, the house where the dagga was being sold was identified and the members proceeded to the house and searched it and found 138 transparent button bags of dagga with an estimated street value of R2,760 and an undisclosed amount of cash. A 19-year-old male suspect was arrested,” she said.
Roelofse added that in an unrelated incident, a second house was identified in the same area of Vula-Vala. “Police found 14 dagga parcels wrapped with retail advertisement paper and a black plastic bag containing loose dagga. A female suspect (42) who was wrapping dagga was arrested immediately.”
Roelofse said the suspects will appear soon in the Maletswai Magistrates’ Court on charges of dealing in dagga.
The Joe Gqabi District Commissioner Major General Lindelwa Vellem commended the DOCC team on their attentiveness and swift reaction that made the arrests and confiscations of drugs possible. “This sends a clear message to street dealers that this conduct will not be tolerated in our communities,” she added.
