In an intelligence-driven multi-disciplinary tactical operation by Komani Dog Unit (K9), Komani Crime Intelligence (CI) and Red Guard Security guards, three suspects aged between 26 and 45 were arrested on 10 July on allegations of possession and dealing in drugs and abalone.

According to police spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, it is alleged that on 10 July at approximately 18:00, the team received information about a white Toyota Starlet sedan with a GP registration number.

The vehicle was reportedly transporting abalone and crystal meth (tik) from East London to Gauteng via Komani.

She said that the joint team spotted the vehicle that matched the description on the same day at 19:40.

“The car with three occupants was stopped on the N6 near Komani Hospital. The trio tried to evade arrest by running in different directions without success as police swiftly caught up with them,” said Mgolodela.

“During the arrest, the following items were recovered: abalone worth R50 000, crystal meth (tik) worth R150 000, and four cell phones.”

Mgolodela said that the Toyota Starlet worth more than R520 000, used as an instrument in the commission of the crime, was also seized.

She said that the suspects will appear before Komani Magistrate’s Court on 14 July.

The tremendous success of the joint team has been lauded by District Commissioner Major General Rudolph Adolph.
