This all-Russian recital promises to be a highlight of the 2026 classical music calendar, offering Hermanus audiences the rare opportunity to experience world-class artistry in their own backyard.

Music lovers are in for an extraordinary treat as internationally acclaimed pianist Gustavo Romero prepares to grace the Civic Auditorium stage once again with an all-Russian recital that promises to be both technically brilliant and emotionally captivating.

The concert, organised by OAK, will take place on Sunday 18 January at 15:30 featuring works by some of Russia’s greatest composers including Rubinstein, Prokofiev, Medtner, Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, and Stravinsky.

Hailed as “a pianist of genius” by The Washington Post and praised by The New York Times for his “agility, power, and unusually large repertory of colors and dynamic levels” .His musical journey began remarkably early – as a child prodigy, Romero performed with the prestigious New York Philharmonic at just 13 years old. Since then, he has captivated audiences in the world’s most prestigious venues, from Carnegie Hall to the Berlin Philharmonie, delivering performances that critics consistently describe as technically immaculate and profoundly expressive.

Romero’s relationship with South African audiences runs deep. He visits the country annually and holds the special distinction of being the pianist who inaugurated the piano in Hermanus’s Civic Auditorium in 2008.

Tickets for this exceptional recital are available from René du Plooy and can be purchased by emailing renedup@telkomsa.net or calling 082 940 4238. Given Romero’s international reputation and the intimate setting, booking is strongly recommended for what promises to be an unforgettable afternoon.
