Whalers hold their own in Blouberg

Five members of the Whalers Athletic Club participated in the Blouberg Marathon held on Sunday 10 July. This was the last race on the calendar to qualify for the Comrades Marathon. The weather was overcast, cool with no wind, perfect running conditions. West Coast Marathon Club hosted the race and did a great job. The route was quite flat and took the runners through the suburbs of Blouberg, then through the Blouberg Nature Reserve and a loop around Melkbosstrand before heading back to Table View Mall. Mariaan Griffiths finished the 10 km in 1:03:55, while Sarien Lochner completed the 21 km in 2:20:29. Three of the club members completed the 42 km race. Dian Giliomee finished in 4:22:46, Gareth Griffiths in 4:33:33 and Elaine Cuffe in 4:49:31. Pictured are Elaine Cuffe and Gareth Griffiths.
