Nine athletes of the Whalers Athletic Club in Hermanus are off to Kwa-Zulu Natal to compete in the annual Comrades Marathon.
The Whalers team consists of two women, Elaine Cuffe
The Comrades Marathon is held for the 96th time this year. Runners will set off at 05:30 on Sunday 11 June from Pietermaritzburg City Hall. The route is approximately 87,7 km and this year is a “Down Run”. It will end at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Cricket Stadium in Durban. The cut-off time is 17:00. The event draws thousands of athletes from across the world every year.
Overstrand Municipality wishes all runners from the Overstrand who are participating in the 2023 Comrades Marathon a wonderful and successful race.
Overstrand Executive Mayor, Dr Annelie Rabie, said the runners have been training for many months from very early in the morning in the streets across the area to compete in the race. She wished all participants well.
