The Stanford Animal Welfare Society (SAWS) will celebrate its many successes by staging an open day at the SAWS Shop on Heritage Day, 24 September.
One project that stands out is the establishment of the SAWS cattery earlier this year. There was no turning back when the animal lovers started strategising to build the cattery.
The project started and SAWS members considered various alternatives. Bert du Toit, owner of Stanford Security Service (SSS), learnt about this and offered SAWS available space at the SSS premises.
The setting was ideal as it was situated barely a kilometre outside Stanford. The tree canopy at the spot offered shade and tranquillity.
“Bert’s generosity empowered SAWS,” said Wendy Hanson, SAWS spokesperson. “We were free to choose the location of the cattery. He did not give us any limitation on space.”
An anonymous donor subsequently made it possible for SAWS to erect three wendy houses to accommodate 12 or so cats. Recently a second anonymous donor gave SAWS a fourth wendy house.
Stanhaven resident Ian Trotter has worked tirelessly to transform the wendy houses into de luxe feline homes with ample space to frolic. John Lunderstedt assisted whenever he was needed.
The aim of the open day on Heritage Day is to introduce the public to SAWS and its shop and the charming feline residents at the cattery. It will start at 11:00 and end at 15:00. The invitation is open. Please do attend.– Nelly Roodt
