Adventure seekers and fitness enthusiasts can now register for the 2025 Paul Clüver off-road triathlon, promising a unique sporting experience amid the stunning Elgin vineyards.

The picturesque Paul Clüver Wine Estate will once again serve as the backdrop for one of the region’s most scenic sporting events when the annual off-road triathlon takes place on Sunday 7 December. Set against the dramatic landscape of the Groenlandberg mountain, this year’s event promises to deliver an unforgettable experience for athletes of all skill levels.

The triathlon offers two distinct race formats to accommodate varying fitness levels and experience. The X Tri Lite, designed for beginners and recreational athletes, features a 500 m swim, 12 km jeep track mountain bike ride, and 5 km off-road run. Participants must be 16 years or older for solo entries, or 14 years and older for team participation.

For seasoned athletes seeking a more demanding challenge, the X Tri Full presents a rigorous test with a 1 000 m swim, 27 km technical mountain bike course, and 10 km trail run. Solo participants must be at least 18 years old, while team members need to be 16 or older.

Recognising the importance of inclusive participation, organisers have ensured the event caters to families and younger participants. A 3 km nature walk and shorter running events will be available for children and beginners who wish to experience the beautiful estate terrain without the intensity of the full triathlon format. What sets the Paul Clüver triathlon apart from traditional road-based events is its emphasis on natural terrain and scenic beauty.

Athletes will navigate through established vineyard paths and estate trails, offering spectacular mountain views and an immersive experience in one of South Africa’s premier wine regions. The combination of swimming, mountain biking on varied terrain and trail running creates a unique sporting challenge that tests different muscle groups and requires diverse athleticism.
