Nearly 400 residents of the Cape Agulhas municipal district have registered their details in a Housing Demand Database verification drive by the Western Cape Department of Infrastructure in partnership with the Cape Agulhas Municipality.

The drive was held at the Napier Community Hall and Struisbaai Library on Saturday 29 July and at the Struisbaai Community Hall on Sunday the 30th.

The initiative is part of the Western Cape Government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring accurate and up-to-date information for housing allocations. It provided an opportunity for residents to register and update their details.

Ntobeko Mbingeleli, spokesperson for Western Cape MEC for Infrastructure Tertuis Simmers, explained the collected data will now undergo a thorough process of collation, assessment and analysis, to form the foundation for future endeavours in addressing housing needs more effectively.

Simmers expressed his appreciation. “I’d like to commend the community members who braved the cold weather and visited our stations,” he said. “This initiative aims to help the two spheres of government further in identifying and addressing the region’s housing needs more effectively.”

Building on this success, the Western Cape Department of Infrastructure plans to initiate similar open-day outreaches in other parts of the province soon. Details of these initiatives will be communicated to the relevant communities to ensure widespread participation.

The department encourages residents who were unable to partake in this weekend’s initiative, and are interested in a housing opportunity, to visit their local housing or municipal offices, where they will find assistance and guidance.
