De Collection is presenting a weekend of pure mountain-bike adventure riding, and a few surprising special additions to add to this boutique experience at the De Hoop Vlei MTB Experience.
Kicking off on Friday 17 May with a short Sunset Scramble, 12 km warm-up ride, starting at 16:00. Riding into a spectacular sunset where Bontebok perfects the picture of white dunes in the background.
Riders pass the stunning new De Mond Lodge situated on the edge of the Vlei, and return to De Hoop Opstal in a clockwise direction.

On Saturday 18 May the race will start at 08:30 and the route will showcase the best of MTB trails in the De Hoop Collection.
“This year we have a unique start at the Melkkamer, situated on the furthest edge of the Ramsar Vlei,” the organisers said. “This historical Opstal homestead offers a hideaway destination, with two additional Vlei cottages on the island. A truly amazing feature that few travellers know of.”
The route will comprise an open gravel road in the beginning, but soon changes to a phenomenal single track hugging the edge of the vlei.
The trail to whales on 19 May will take you from Potberg to Vaalkrans, and Koppie Alleen. “The route is a tough challenge that includes three steep climbs at The Tar Flatty in the beginning, the Vaalkrans cement climb up to the Ocean view point, and the final climb up to Morokuru Beach Lodge.
“A very special and unique route including a ride through a private wild camp just before Potberg, and stunning ocean views to the left of the De Hoop Nature Reserve,” the organisers stated.
The weekend’s special activities will include old school live music, a BOMA braai around an open fire with sunset views, sundowners on the deck, wine tasting, and fabulous food and hospitality from De Hoop Collection. For more information send an email to nicola@dehoopcollection.co.za
