Residents across Hermanus and surrounding areas are urged to remain vigilant and report all crimes or attempted ones to the police. This follows what seems to be an increase in break-ins reported in Voëlklip in recent weeks.

“We are aware of at least three incidents involving customers of ours in that area, and there are anecdotal reports of at least six others,” says Hermanus branch manager for Fidelity ADT Marius Boshoff. “The break-ins appear to be opportunistic in nature too and involved scenarios where suspects tried to grab whatever they can and get away as quickly as possible.”

He says residents should report any suspicious behaviour immediately.

“Hermanus has several armed response companies and security role players who are deployed to keep people safe from crime.

“We share information with each other and we rely on the public to also report any cases – or even attempted incidents – so we can build an accurate picture of any crime trends that might be developing.”

Boshoff says his team is closely monitoring the situation in Voëlklip and will make any operational changes that may be required to apprehend suspects active in the area.
