Overberg BMX Club riders delivered a spectacular performance at the South African National BMX Cup 5 & 6 and South African BMX Championship, bringing home a treasure trove of medals and earning coveted official SA rankings at Kempton Park BMX Club on 4-5 October.

The two-day championship event showcased the exceptional talent emerging from the Overberg region, with local riders competing against the nation’s best BMX athletes from across South Africa. “During the SA Cup competitions, Overberg’s rising stars proved their mettle on the challenging Kempton Park track. Rickus Muller demonstrated remarkable consistency, claiming two bronze medals and establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with in his category. Not to be outdone, young talent Hosea Kloppers delivered a standout performance, securing both a silver and bronze medal that highlighted his rapidly developing racing prowess and competitive spirit,” said the chairperson of the Overberg BMX Club George Kloppers.

The South African BMX Championship brought even greater glory for Overberg riders, with five athletes earning official SA numbers – a prestigious recognition that places them among the country’s top-ranked competitors in their respective categories. “Leading the charge was Hosea Kloppers, who claimed the SA6 ranking in the 7 years boys category, while Rickus Muller secured SA4 in the highly competitive Cruiser Men class. Aaron de Klerk joined Muller in the Cruiser Men rankings with his SA6 position. Jesse Rademeyer showcased impressive skills to earn SA3 in the 14 years boys class, while LJ Olivier rounded out the success stories with his SA6 ranking in the 15 years boys category. “Special mention goes to Ingrid Youell, who earned the top SA1 ranking despite her race being unfortunately cancelled due to insufficient entries in her class. Her qualification for the championship demonstrates her exceptional skill level.”

According to Kloppers the outstanding results reflect the growing strength of BMX racing in the Overberg region and the dedication of these young athletes to their sport.
