Two junior firefighters from the Overstrand Municipality, Anga Ngongose and Siyabonga Kohlakal, have successfully completed their Firefighter 1 and 2 certifications as well as Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Awareness and Hazmat Operations training at the Cape Winelands Fire Services Training Academy.

The demanding 12-week programme covered both theoretical and practical aspects, the physical component often proving the most challenging.

The class achieved a remarkable 100% pass mark for the Hazmat Operations course, a first in the academy’s history.

Overstrand’s Anga Ngongose received recognition as the most disciplined student.

Both firefighters are eager to apply what they have learnt, including skill and techniques needed to fight a fire, and their knowledge of hazardous materials.
