Helen Human wants to make a positive difference in Primary Health Care.

The Overberg Health Department has welcomed Helen Human as the new Primary Health Care Manager for the Theewaterskloof sub-district.

Human, who has served in various positions at the Oudtshoorn Hospital, started in her new post on 1 April. She spent 25 years working as a midwife in the Labour Ward at Oudtshoorn Hospital, 10 of which were as its Operational Manager.

Afterwards, in 2013, she assumed the position of Nursing Manager at Ladysmith Hospital and then in 2016 became Nursing Manager at Oudtshoorn Hospital.

Besides a nursing qualification obtained from the Western Cape College of Nursing, Human also holds a Diploma in Nursing Management, which she obtained from the University of Stellenbosch.

The experienced health-care practitioner has a 31-year-old daughter, 29-year-old son and boasts two grandchildren.

“PHC is not my usual setting as I come from acute service, but I am looking forward to this new challenge and learning from this experience,” Human stated.

“I believe I will enjoy it here and trust I will make a positive contribution to the health-care service in Theewaterskloof.

“I am excited to meet all the PHC staff and believe we will add value to one another’s professional lives. I believe as a manager our people/staff are the greatest asset. I realise that PHC will play a very important role in the success of Healthcare 2023.”

Dr Trevor Pillay, Theewaterskloof Medical Manager, welcomed Human, saying: “We welcome the long anticipated arrival of our new PHC Manager to TWK.

“Her timing couldn’t have been better with the launch of our new five year strategic plan for TWK. We sincerely look forward to her energy and contribution to the sub-district executive team.”

Wilma Kamfer, Overberg District Director for the Department of Health, added: “We welcome Ms Human as Primary Health Care Manager. Theewaterskloof is one of the most challenging sub-districts and we will give her all the support she needs to function optimally.

“We wish her well on this new journey and look forward to working with her.”
