Councillor Archie Klaas was elected Speaker of the Overberg District Municipality (ODM) at a scheduled council meeting recently.
Klaas, who has been an ODM councillor since 2016 and served as Deputy Executive Mayor during the previous term, was elected overwhelmingly by council members at the meeting held in the Council Chamber at the ODM Head Office in Bredasdorp. The position of Speaker of the Council had been vacant since the former Speaker, Lincoln de Bruyn, left the position to take up a new position at Theewaterskloof Municipality.
At the same meeting two weeks ago, the ODM Council also welcomed Cllr Carol de Bruyn Benjamin from Theewaterskloof Municipality. De Bruyn was sworn in as a new councillor for the Overberg District Municipality.
