The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a blaze that claimed the life of a 40-year-old man.
Colonel Joe Hartnick, acting commander of the Caledon Police, confirmed the authorities were called out to a fire that had broken out in a backyard dwelling in Rising Sun Close in Phase 3, Bot River about 22:45 on Saturday 28 January.
Winston Williams, who had celebrated his 40th birthday in December, had already died when the fire services arrived on the scene. “An inquest docket has been opened. The cause of the fire is being investigated,” Hartnick stated.
Messages of condolence were shared on Facebook. “May his soul rest in eternal peace. Strength to his family and friends,” a friend shared.
