Two suspects appeared in court on charges of attempted murder and robbery after they allegedly robbed a man and stoned him until he was unconscious.
Sergeant Abigail Naidoo, spokesperson for the police in the Overberg District, reported the incident occurred at approximately 22:00 on 16 March in Zwelihle.
“The complainant, a 37-year-old man, was on his way from Mandela Street to Marikana when he was approached by two suspects. The victim fought back to retrieve his wallet from one of the suspects, who then allegedly pulled out a knife while his accomplice started throwing stones at the victim who tried to run away.
“They ran after the victim until he reached a dead end and couldn’t run any further. The suspects allegedly stoned the victim until he lost consciousness. They then robbed him of his possessions.”
The victim was transported to hospital and transferred to Tygerberg Hospital, where he underwent an operation due to the severe head injuries he had sustained in the attack.
Naidoo said the victim reported the incident to the police on Saturday 6 April.
“Two suspects were arrested and appeared in Hermanus Magistrates’ Court on Monday 8 April on charges of robbery and attempted murder. The case was postponed and the suspects will remain in custody until their next court appearance.”
