The well-known trail athlete AJ Calitz will share his advice and experience on how you should prepare for your next race.

Have you always wondered how to prepare for that big race? Or, maybe you want to trade your parkrun for that first half-marathon. And what do you eat once you’ve reached the 12th kilometre?

Well-known trail runner AJ Calitz, who is visiting Kleinmond, will answer all these questions, share his wealth of knowledge and bags of experience with the running (and walking) fraternity of the Overstrand this Friday (5 April).

Calitz is a legend (and national champion) in trail circles and has won numerous ultra races. His latest success was his victory in the killer CallingCapeTown Challenge earlier this month, where participants had to swim, bike and run in the mountains around Cape Town.

The Hangklip Athletics Club will host this info-evening with Calitz as the special guest. He will share stories from his latest adventures and his knowledge, experience and advice on preparing for big events, what he eats and how one train one’s legs for that next challenge.

The event is, however, not only aimed at experienced runners. Calitz will also give valuable advice for those who want to tackle their first 10 km or half-marathon, but just need that last bit of confidence. Some of the information he shares includes what to eat beforehand and how many sachets of energy gel one really needs for those long hills.

Only 50 tickets (R50 each) are available for the information evening, which takes place at the Kleinmond Golf Club on Friday evening, 5 April at 19:00. So make sure of your seat by making your reservation as soon as possible at the link on the Hangklip Athletics Club’s Facebook page.
