Mthimkhulu Community Development invites everyone to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Mandela Day by participating in their Pick n No-Pay Shopping Day on Tuesday 18 July from 11:00 to 13:00 at Mthimkhulu Village Centre at 105 9th Avenue in Kleinmond.
“We are calling for donations of children’s clothing, adult clothing, household goods such as blankets, kitchen utensils, crockery, cutlery, pots and pans, non-perishable food and anything that could be useful to indigent families in need,” spokesperson Joan Daries said.
She said families in need will be assessed and allocated vouchers to “purchase” items according to their need by redeeming their vouchers in exchange for donated goods on Mandela Day.
“Beneficiaries will be given the dignity of deciding what they need rather than us giving them awarded vouchers according to their needs,” she said.
The young people in Kleinmond will also be part of this project. Darries added that the winter of 2023 is brutally cold and wet and will have an impact on the community.
“Many of our community members are suffering untold hardship because of this cold weather,” she pointed out, “and that is why young people in Kleinmond will also be collecting soup ingredients for 67 pots of soup that will also be given out on the day.”
