Botrivier Community Volunteers recently visited the local primary school to hand over plastic envelopes and pencils to nearly 400 learners.

This project, said Rachel Browne, head of the Botrivier Community Volunteers’ Education Portfolio, falls under their Back To School campaign which involved donating school shoes to a number of learners at the start of the new school year.

She added: “In December last year the BCV wrote to Shoprite Checkers to ask whether the company would fund the project in advance of the new school year. The BCV’s initial idea was to buy school shoes for the scholars, especially the Grade 1s, thus the request.

“At the end of January, Shoprite Checkers donated R 1 500 to the project and a further R 3 500 was raised among the Botrivier community.”

Sufficient funds were raised to purchase envelopes and pencils for the foundation grades as well as the next grade.

Education Portfolio volunteers visited Botrivier Primary School recently to hand over the items. Deidre Daniels, the school principal, welcomed the donation and said it is a much needed item that helps to protect papers handed out by teachers.
