Moving performances by local artists and dancers set the stage for the second Inspirational Women’s Day event held in Hermanus on Saturday 19 August.
August is Women’s Month and the event was hosted by Overstrand Executive Mayor, Dr Annelie Rabie, in order to pay tribute to unsung heroines of our area.
All of them play an important role in the lives of others and use their talents and skills in various ways to the greater benefit of their communities.
Women from different communities of the Overstrand, from Kleinmond to Gansbaai, attended the event, where they were treated to a tasty breakfast as well as performances by local artists.
In her address Rabie said: “Today we want to salute you for reaching out and supporting one another as mothers, sisters, grandmothers, friends, home-makers or working women.
“All of you have inspired people in some or other way.
“We know it is easy to inspire when the going is good; easy if you have the money, a car, have enough data and the means to uplift and empower somebody. It is not so easy to inspire when you yourself don’t have.
“Many of you inspired people with the ‘nothing or the very little’ that you have, and I want to thank you for that.”
