Hello, everybody! I do hope all of you are still able to breathe during these trying times. At this point, I am guessing most of you are starting to miss your friends like crazy. Heck, I bet even your school uniform is starting to look strangely fashionable during these days of enforced holidays.

I just wanted to assure you all in these uncertain times there is no need to despair. I know many of you are worried about your education and your future, but I assure you we will walk this bumpy path with you every step of the way. I believe I speak on behalf of all my colleagues at Hermanus High School when I say no stone will be left unturned and no resource spared to ensure the continuing of your education. We therefore encourage you to keep your faith and hope alive. There is light at the end of this darkest of tunnels, and my colleagues and I are committed to guiding you towards it.

Please remember that as your teacher I am always available if anyone has any question concerning schoolwork, or just life in general. I cannot promise I’ll always have the answers ready, but I will help you in any way I can.

Over this weekend may I suggest you put your books and devices down and find some quiet time with your family and loved ones? Yes, I know at this point the very idea of being in the same room with your little brother or sister, or even parents, sounds about as exciting as a documentary on the life cycle of a dust mite. But I believe it is important, over these next few days, to remind ourselves about the things that are important.

I hope to see all of you again soon. Remember your school, teachers and yours truly are there for every one of you, every step of the way. Stay strong, healthy and positive.

Albert Peter,

Teacher at Hermanus High School

This letter was originally addressed to the Grade 8C class of Hermanus High, but is equally applicable to all learners – from the school and elsewhere – at this time.
