Mount Pleasant Saints Soup Kitchen is a beacon of hope for many who cannot afford to put a warm meal on the table for their families.
With the help of various businesses, benefactors and volunteers who donated food, clothes and other items, this organisation managed to make Mandela Day on Tuesday 18 June a truly special occasion for the less privileged residents of Mount Pleasant and surrounds.
Maria Pieterse, founder of Mount Pleasant Saints Soup Kitchen, thanked Pam Golding Whale Coast, Hermanus Police, The Brewery, Robyn Diederichs, Advocate Edmund Wessels, OK Minimarket and all other role-players who contributed to the success of the day.
“Thank you to everyone for their generous contribution and help with this worthy cause. Mount Pleasant Saints Soup Kitchen, together with the team of Pam Golding, distributed soup, Jars of Hope, oranges, bread and meat.
“Thank you to everyone who helped clean and paint the house of a man who suffers from cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy at Tygerberg Hospital.
“Thank you for the donations of bedding, warm clothes and blankets, towels and other items for this man.”
With the help of benefactors Pieterse could also take 30 children from the neighbourhood to Spur, where they enjoyed a meal and playing in the play area.
“It was an unforgettable experience!” she said.
“The smiles on the children’s faces were priceless! Thanks to everyone who helped me to make others happy.”
