Overstrand executive mayor Dr Annelie Rabie welcomes all the visitors to and citizens of the Overstrand Municipality to the Hermanus Whale Festival. She stated: “Over the past 32 years it has become world renowned as one of the 20 ‘Must do’ events in South Africa, attracting between 80 000 and 130 000 visitors to the Overstrand area over the three days of festivities. Last year, over 21 000 vehicles entered Overstrand during this time. This is a good indication of the economic boost this festival gives to our area, involving all industries and also serving as a wonderful brand-building exercise to put Overstrand and all its treasures on the map for future visitors. On the back of the Overstrands’ inaugural Tourism Indaba, the Whale Festival certainly caps off a successful Tourism Month for the Overstrand. Let us also welcome our Southern Right whale friends back for another year of showing off their calves, frolicking in our beautiful waters and generally just delighting all those that spot them.
