Growing from humble beginnings at Curro Hermanus to a fully-equipped club at Amana in Vermont, it boasts four gymnasts who bagged gold at various events.

They are Zion Vivier who won gold for Level 3 Men’s Artistic Gymnastics at the Western Cape Championships, while the Level 4 Traceurs Samuel Rossouw (5-18 years), Samuel McConnell (13-14 years) and Luka Jooste (11-12) won gold at the competition held at the Wineberg Military Base at the end of September.

The Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) team also performed well at the National Championships held in Kuils River last month. Heilie Miré Gerber ended in 19th position and Mia Vorster 20th in the Level 4, 13-18 years division out of 58 gymnasts.

Anlia Sprong ended in 27th position out of 96 gymnasts in Level 4, 10 years.

Hannes du Plessis also did well at the Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) provincial championships, bagging a silver medal in the Level 2 division. Liam Taylor took part in Level 4 at the Gym Games where he ended 11th out of 36 gymnasts.

Gym Genies students also did well at the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) National Championships, which were held in Kuils River at the end of September.

Heilie Miré Gerber came 19th and Mia Vorster came 20th in Level 4, 13-18 years of 58 gymnasts, while Anlia Sprong came 27th out of 96 gymnasts in Level 4, 10 years.

All the members of the Parkour team, known as Traceurs, brought home medals from the competition held at the Wineberg Military Base. While Rossouw, McConnell and Jooste bagged gold, their team mates Luke Holland (13-14) won silver and Sharlu Grobbelaar (13-14) bronze.

“All our gymnasts excelled this year and we are extremely proud of their achievements,” said Gym Genies Gymnastics Club’s coach Madelein Wrigley.

The club offers artistic, trampoline and parkour gymnastics for boys and girls from 3 to 18 years, and promotes a healthy lifestyle and the building of healthy bodies and minds.
