Local gymnastics talent soared to new heights at the South African National Trampoline Championships, with Gym Genies Gymnastics of Hermanus delivering an outstanding performance that has put the Overberg region firmly on the national sporting map.
Nine of the club’s determined gymnasts made their mark at the prestigious championships held in Gqeberha from 7 to 10 October, the Double Mini Trampoline Gymnastics, one of nine disciplines officially recognised by Gymnastics South Africa.
But the success story doesn’t end there. In a remarkable achievement that underscores the quality of coaching in the region Gym Genies head coach Karl Schneeberger has been selected to guide South Africa’s National Protea Trampoline Team at the FIG Trampoline World Championships in Pamplona, Spain. Schneeberger’s appointment to coach at the world championships, from 6 to 9 November, represents not only personal recognition, but a testament to the high-calibre training programmes developed right here in the Overberg.
The local gymnastics community is celebrating both the national championship performance and Schneeberger’s international-coaching selection, with club officials expressing immense pride in his “tremendous contribution to the youth of the Overberg”.
