Wine brings people together, and in today’s difficult times friends and wine make every day worth celebrating. One doesn’t always get all one’s favourite wines under one roof, but at Wine & Company in Hermanus one will find everything from the best red wines to a wide selection of white wines.
“We are an independent wine retailer and stock a wide variety of wines, mostly from smaller, boutique estates and independent winemakers,” said manager Gary van der Walt, “some of whom buy grapes and make outstanding wines under their own labels – much the same as the French negociants have been doing for centuries.”
He said Wine & Company fully understands that great wine experiences are personal, which is why it listens and will walk the extra mile to stock the wine of your choice. “We stock a wide variety of boutique wines and have a well-earned reputation for stocking hard-to-find small-batch wines,” he stated. Given such wine is made in small quantities, sometimes just a single barrel, the wine will never be found on shelves of major retailers, but only in specialist shops such as Wine & Company in High Street, Hermanus.
The shop was established in 1998 by Bartho and Sune Eksteen (now creating wine under his “Wijnskool” label). “We took over from the previous owners about five years ago and we have a passion for wine,” Van der Walt said. “We also strive to bring you a different and unique wine experience and boast a rosé selection, which you will probably not find anywhere else.
“We have a great selection of the well-known wines, some craft gins and beers, as well as whisky and liqueurs and related accessories.
