The South African Defence Force has been deployed to the Overstrand to assist other law enforcement agencies with crime fighting operations. Captain Walter Kasaka, Operational Communications Officer Joint Tactical Headquarters Western Cape, confirmed that the “Main force” arrived on Friday 29 July and completed their Mission Readiness Training on 30 and 31 July. He explained: “The main aim of the operation is to safeguard and protect marine resources by preventing freedom of movement for illegal activities at sea and denying illegal activities at sea. The SA Navy Harbour Patrol Boats (HPB) will conduct seaward patrols to dominate the ocean. Patrols are planned and executed in conjunction with the Department Forestry, Fisheries and Environment, local police, CapeNature and local Law Enforcement agencies.” Photo: Wallace du Plessis
