A father and son have been taken into custody, and both have been charged with possession of stolen property.
“One of the camera team members at Hermanus Public Protection (HPP) was on a tea break outside the HPP offices when he noticed someone cycling past,” explained Marius Boshoff, Hermanus branch manager at Fidelity ADT. “He recognised the bicycle as one that had earlier been reported stolen.”
The camera operator immediately alerted HPP team members to be on the lookout for the bicycle in question. HPP and Fidelity ADT armed-response vehicles located the cyclist and ordered him to stop.
“On further investigation it was discovered that the suspect’s father had allegedly stolen the bicycle and his son had borrowed it,” said Boshoff. “Both were taken into custody.”
Meanwhile, in a separate incident on 24 August the HPP team also assisted in the arrest of a suspect in the industrial area, where he was found in possession of a dangerous weapon.
