Caledon Police and the Department of Basic Education signed an agreement to launch a unique safety programme involving the learners of Swartberg Secondary. Sgt Tembi Gweyi (left), Caledon Police Station’s social crime prevention officer, visited the school last week to launch the Junior Commissioner programme. He explained this involved establishing a youth police station at the school with youth leaders elected by their peers. It will also involve various youth-safety development programmes. Said Gweyi: “Lorenzo Pheiffer (Grade 8) was elected junior station commander, Morakane Maleke (Grade 9) junior detective commander, Soyama Nonolo (Grade 9) junior head of visible policing and Unaid Manuel (Grade 9) head of support services.” He added principal Adrienne Delport (far right) embraced the concept.
