Swift reaction to a tip-off paid off when members of the Hermanus police confiscated a firearm, ammunition and drugs. Captain Fadila September, spokesperson for the Hermanus police, reported that officers received information about a firearm at a premises in Tsandu Street, Zwelihle on Thursday 23 June at approximately 13:00. “They searched the premises and confiscated a .38 Special Taurus revolver with the serial number filed off, six rounds and one imitation toy gun,” September stated. “They also confiscated cash, 45 ecstasy tablets and 59 bankies of dagga found on the premises. Two men, aged 37 and 61, were arrested on charges of the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, the possession of ecstacy and the possession of dagga.” Lieutenant-Colonel Desmond Fortuin, head of the Hermanus Vispol Unit, commended the officials for their good work and dedication to remove illicit firearms and drugs from the streets to ensure safer communities. He confirmed the firearm will be sent for ballistic testing.
