The Overstrand Municipality’s K-9 Unit, in partnership with the Rural Safety Unit (RSU), have been actively combating crime in the area with great success. Between 15 and 20 April these units with various other municipal law-enforcement agencies and the South African Police Service arrested 13 suspects for various crimes in the Overstrand municipal area. The arrests included four for possession of drugs, five for possession of abalone and West Coast Rock Lobster (WCRL) and two wanted suspects. Their successes included the confiscation of eight whole and one half Mandrax tablets, five small bags (bankies) of tik, 93 whole abalone and six West Coast Rock Lobster. Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Reagen Allen, said: “Our K9 and RSUs are continuing to demonstrate the important role they are playing in creating safer communities. I urge residents to continue engaging with the Western Cape Government and support these units, so that even more successes are achieved.”
