The Hermanus Whale Crier also attends the Africa Travel Indaba being held at the Durban Convention Centre.

Overstrand Tourism will exhibit alongside renowned local product owners Marine Dynamics, The Windsor Hotel and White Shark Projects at Africa’s Travel Indaba, which takes place from 14 to 16 May at the Durban Convention Centre.

Councillor Clinton Lerm, the Overstrand Mayco Member: Investment, Infrastructure & Tourism, explained this collaborative approach signifies the “commitment to maximising marketing efforts and showcasing the Overstrand region as a world-class tourism destination.”

Overstrand Executive Mayor Dr Annelie Rabie further emphasised the importance of collaboration, stating: “The success of tourism hinges on recognising the value of partnerships. Each stakeholder plays a crucial role in directing travellers towards the wonders of the Overstrand.”

Africa’s Travel Indaba, the continent’s largest travel trade show, attracts global buyers catering to all levels of the tourism market, from budget-conscious travellers to luxury seekers. Overstrand’s participation presents a unique opportunity to highlight the region’s diverse offerings, catering to a wide range of interests.

The beloved Hermanus Whale Crier also joined the Overstrand stand to add a further touch of local flair. His presence serves as a delightful reminder of the approaching Southern Right Whale season and the significance of Walker Bay within global whale-migration routes.

This year the Whale Crier’s role takes on a new dimension. Thanks to a generous gift from a local business he’ll be equipped with a smartphone allowing for real-time distribution of information and precise locations of Southern Right Whale sightings. Visitors and locals alike can track the Whale Crier’s daily walks and receive accurate updates on whale sightings, eliminating any guesswork.

The enthusiasm surrounding the Whale Crier’s presence is a clear indicator of visitor excitement for the upcoming Southern Right Whale season. He’s frequently stopped on the streets by eager tourists eager for updates, highlighting the widespread anticipation.

“Overstrand Tourism’s participation in Africa’s Travel Indaba promises to be a resounding success,” said Lerm. “By showcasing local partnerships, diverse offerings, and the magic of whale watching, we are poised to solidify the Overstrand’s position as a must-visit destination.”
