Old and young got the blood flowing and the adrenaline pumping last week during the Provincial Move for Health Commemoration Day, which was held at the Zwelihle Sports Field in Hermanus.
This day, said the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, was aimed at promoting wellness and encouraging active living under the theme “I Choose 2B Active”.
The event, organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, offered participants the opportunity to take part in physical activities, with the aim of encouraging healthy and active lifestyles.
The department supported the day, which was hosted in partnership with various stakeholders such as the Overstrand and Theewaterskloof municipalities, South African Police Services, Community Policing Forum, Western Cape Education Department as well as community organisations such as the Women Action Group and Right to Care.
These two organisations were on hand to offer important health screening services, such as blood pressure and HIV tests as well as screening for illnesses such as tuberculosis and diabetes.
A range of people took part, including children from ECD centres, school-going youth and senior citizens.
The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport supported the day by organising sports activities such as indigenous games and activities for older people.
The younger children took part in activities such as colouring in, face painting and playing with clay, while the older kids participated in soccer and netball matches.
