Hawston Local Business Chamber currently has 16 members who all own businesses operating in the area.

Although the Hawston Local Business Chamber was established as a NPC little more than a year ago in June 2024, it has made big strides and are actively involved in community development projects.

The organisation, with Kolie Nel as chairperson, currently has 16 members who all own businesses in the area. Its aim, said the board, is to be a leading voice for businesses and to foster innovation, opportunity for growth and strengthen partnerships between stakeholders within the local business sphere.

“The chamber believes that decisions made without collective understanding of their long-term impact on the community are detrimental,” it stated. To further its aim of addressing limited business development in the area, the chamber hosted a community-training programme in May, which focused on financial guidance for business growth.

It actively participates in any developmental programme or project that aligns with their objectives. Last December it hosted a Christmas carols event in December, at which 72 gift packs were donated to elderly residents.

Earlier this year the chamber combined with other stakeholders to contribute lunch packs for 450 learners at a big sports event. The organisation is also involved with other stakeholders from the community to arrange a special Heritage Day celebration.

Hawston Local Business Chamber also plans to surprise one sports club with a donation later this year to promote sports development. “Currently, we have 16 members, but we strive to motivate all businesses in Hawston and Fisherhaven to join the Hawston Local Business Chamber to become involved in their own development and make a positive contribution to the community.”

The membership fee is R100 per month, which is used for administrative purposes and donations to various programmes. For any enquiries on the chamber and its activities, or for assistance, call 082 362 0192 or send an email to vpgillion@gmail.com.
