A 44-year-old man who was found in possession of a large amount of ammunition and seven army knives after a break-in at a house in Sandbaai, has appeared in the Hermanus Magistrates’ Court on charges of the illegal possession of ammunition. Captain Fadila September, spokesperson for the Hermanus police, stated that the complaint of the break-in was received on Tuesday 14 May at approximately 04:15. “The suspect was apprehended on the premises,” she said. “When he was searched the officers found 11 live 9mm rounds, 15 7.62 mm rounds and seven army knives in his possession.” The suspect was arrested and charged with housebreaking and illegal possession of ammunition. Colonel Gustav Tamboer, Hermanus Police Station commander, commended all role-players for their swift response that led to the apprehension of the suspect and recovery of the ammunition and knives.
