She is self driven, ambitious and very passionate about her business.
According to Maxine du Plooy, owner of Marvellous Maids, her past experience as a branch manager for one of SA’s biggest banks helped her to start her own business. Not only did she want to downsize from the busy corporate world, but she also wanted to live in Hermanus.
“It was time to take a breather and move to the beautiful Hermanus, which leaves me in disbelief at how blessed I am when I take in the beauty around me everyday and realise that this is my life now. Hermanus has always held such a sentimental part of my heart as this is the place I used to spend the most quality time with my late granny and mother, and it just gives me a warm feeling, remembering those special times,” Maxine said.
According to Maxine she is very passionate about her business because it has the potential to alleviate poverty in some homes. “What I love even more than that is the fact that the poverty alleviation I speak of comes through the empowerment of women – something SA needs so much more of.
“Currently my goals are to grow Marvellous Maids to a point where it is a household name all over the Overberg, and making it a big success in being known for excellent service. I am also working as an estate agent at Century 21 in Hermanus and of course my goal is to sell and list as many properties as possible,” she said.
She lives by the motto: “Do what you love and you will never work a day in your life, it will be one great adventure . . . and the five words that describe her the best are: honest, enduring, no-nonsense, consistent and client-centered.
The one person she looks up to is her mother: “I know it might sound like a cliché, but she really is the strongest, most beautiful woman I know. She has such a heart for the community and this has rubbed off on me. I am passionate about animals and charity and have found two local charities that I am currently involved with for both people and animals, and am constantly seeking more ways to help – it is important that we draw inspiration from movers and shakers. If I can be half the woman she is, that would be enough for me,” she concluded.
