One of the most common complaints regarding police service delivery is a shortage of vehicles to attend to complaints. That is why the handover of six brand-new vehicles to police stations across the Overberg was such a momentous occasion.
Major-General Miriam Mochologi, the Overberg Police District Commissioner, handed the pristine vehicles over to the station commanders of Caledon, Villiersdorp, Hermanus, Genadendal and Bredasdorp. Caledon police received two vehicles of which one will go to the Bot River satellite police station which falls under Caledon police.
In addition to this, the Overberg District Community Policing Forum (CPF) also received a car which will be used for community engagement activities, Mochologi explained.
She emphasised that the vehicles are to be used for operational duties, to attend complaints and to improve police visibility.
“These vehicles will bring hope to our communities where there is always an outcry about challenges regarding resources and that there aren’t enough police vehicles to attend complaints,” Mochologi stated.
“Our primary mandate is to fight crime. With the little we have we must serve our communities with pride.”
