A woman whose body was discovered in Zwelihle two weeks ago, still hasn’t been identified.
Captain Fadila September, spokesperson for Hermanus police, reported nobody had come forward to identify or claim the remains of the young woman whose body was found wrapped in plastic and dumped in Still Street near Zwelihle on Wednesday 28 June.
The murdered woman, said September, was estimated to be in her 20s, had a slight build and braids.
“We followed-up on all missing person’s reports filed at police stations in surrounding towns. The investigation is ongoing and all leads are being followed up.”
The suspect, who was taken in for questioning shortly after the gruesome discovery was made, has since been released without being charged as there was no evidence to link him to the crime.
“No suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made yet,” said September.
She added that cases of public violence have also been registered in connection with incidents that occurred when residents of Zwelihle went on a rampage and looted and destroyed the homes of foreign nationals living in the area. This followed after it became known that the suspect who was taken in for questioning is a foreign national.
A large number of these foreign nationals had to flee their homes in Zwelihle but have since returned.
Anyone with information about the young woman’s identity or leads about the murder can contact the Hermanus Police on 028 313 5300.
