The Overberg BMX Club is gearing up to host one of the most anticipated events on the Western Cape BMX calendar, as the provincial points series 6 and 9 of the BMX Western Cape converge on their home track this Sunday 7 September.
The double-header event promises to deliver high-octane racing action as riders from across the province descend on the Hermanus facility to compete for crucial championship points in what has become one of the most competitive seasons in recent memory. “We’re absolutely thrilled to be hosting such a significant event,” said George Kloppers chairman of the Overberg BMX Club. “Our track has been in excellent condition this season, and we’re expecting some of the province’s top talent to put on a spectacular show for our local community.”
The Provincial Points Series serves as the primary qualification pathway for riders seeking to compete at national level competitions, making each round crucial for ambitious racers. With two rounds being contested in a single day, riders will have double the opportunity to accumulate points toward their provincial standings. The event will cater to riders across all age categories.
BMX enthusiasts agree that this sport is truly a sport for everyone. “We’ll see everyone from three-year-olds on balance bikes to seasoned veterans still competing at the highest level. It’s this diversity that makes BMX such a special sport.”
Registration opens at 08:00 on Sunday and practise is between 09:00-10:00. The racing starts at 10:20. Spectator entry is free, and ample parking will be available at the venue. For riders still looking to participate, enter online.
