Role-players at the signing of an international-cooperation agreement between the Theewaterskloof Municipality, Department of Water and Sanitation, Dutch Water Authorities and Breede-Gouritz Catchment Management Agency at a special ceremony held at the Villiersdorp Resource Centre.

Tuesday 18 July marked a special occasion for the Thee-waterskloof Municipality as it signed an important document.

The municipality and Department of Water and Sanitation, along with the Dutch Water Authorities and Breede-Gouritz Catchment Management Agency, officially pledged their commitment to working together and sharing knowledge as part of the Theewaterskloof branch of the Blue Deal Programme, which seeks to enhance access to sufficient, clean and safe water for all by 2030 and beyond.

This was done through the signing of an international cooperation agreement among the four parties at a special ceremony held at the Villiersdorp Resource Centre.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by Blue Deal representative Marion Wierda, Ntombizanele Mary Bila-Mupariwa of the regional office of the Department of Water and Sanitation, Breede-Gouritz Catchment Management Agency representative and Blue Deal South Africa project manager Fabion Smith and Theewaterskloof’s Municipal Manager Wilfred Solomons-Johannes.

“With this agreement all parties pledge their support for water management and working collaboratively to exchange knowledge and experiences in the water sector, while helping to create awareness of the sustainable conservation of this important resource at community and oversight level.”
