“For many children who live in shacks with no safe heating at all, winter is tough. On the other hand we have the elderly who are also very vulnerable in the cold weather, particularly to flu and even pneumonia.”
So said Lana Coates of the Stanford Rotary Club, which is currently promoting its annual Blanket Drive. The organisation appeals to the community to donate warm blankets, beanies, scarves or funds to buy blankets for those in need.
Coates stated there is also a need for knitted or crocheted blankets for babies and toddlers up to 2 years old.
“We are estimating the need to be between 250 and 300 blankets this year with a much bigger need for older children. Second-hand blankets are also welcome, provided it is clean and in a good condition.”
