The annual Better Together Games was hosted on the Hawston Sport Grounds recently, where Western Cape Overstrand government officials and Municipal employees participated in various sporting codes. The event was a huge success.
Some of the Government agencies that include Sassa (South African Social Security Agency), Department of Education (Overberg), Department of Health (Overberg), Social Department and DFFE (Department of environmental Affairs).
“Better Together Games or formally known as ‘Provincial Sport Days’ has been hosted in the Western Cape since 1998.”
This has over the years, generated healthy competition among the Public Services.
“Partnerships forged over the years include Old Mutual, Cape Peninsula Beverages and Nedbank, all contributing towards a common goal of empowering others and ensuring equity, access, and growth opportunities for marginalised groupings in sport recreation,” said a spokesperson.
“The sport days are held to build social inclusiveness between and among all spheres of Government.
“Better Together games are expected to contribute towards building the Western Cape Government’s capacity to ensure effective and efficient service delivery by enhancing the lives of public officials and promoting their well-being. “
Annually government officials in the various districts of the Western Cape Province, as well as in the metropole try their hand at soccer, mini-cricket, volleyball, tug of war, chess and many other engaging activities and games at hand for the government officials held by Sport and Recreation services.
