It’s that time of the year again when you can vote for your favourite business, entrepreneur, activity destination and/or service in the Kfm 94.5 Best of the Cape Awards.

The Overberg can once again boast 12 local businesses and one town from the region as being among the 150 finalists across 30 categories announced on Wednesday 26 July.

Just being nominated as finalists in this popular contest, said Overberg Executive Mayor Sakkie Franken, is an auspicious achievement.

“It is an exceptional achievement that so many local businesses were nominated,” he said. “It is good advertisement for the finalists and is sure to draw more customers to these businesses. This, in turn, will help them grow, which will mean they can appoint extra staff.

“The most important spin-off is that this will lead to job creation and assist with the Overberg GDP’s growth.”

Eight of the finalists are based in the Overstrand. Its municipality’s Portfolio Chair for Investment, Infrastructure and Tourism Councillor Clinton Lerm welcomed the news.

He said: “The Best of the Cape Awards acknowledges the efforts and hard work that goes into service delivery. The Overstrand is proud of the local representation in the competition and encourages everyone to support these businesses by voting.”

Overstrand businesses that made the Kfm 94.5 Best of the Cape Awards are Mosaic Lagoon Lodge in Stanford in the Best Hotel category, Char’d in Hermanus in the Best Date Night Restaurant category, Fatbike Tours in De Kelders and Shark Lady Adventures in the Best Adventure Experience category, Moody Lagoon at Benguela Cove in the Best Family Restaurant category, De Uijlenes in Gansbaai in the Best Wedding Venue category and Ou Meul in both the Best Bakery and Best Farm Stall categories.

Ou Meul Bakery opened its first branch in Riviersonderend and now has branches in various towns including Stanford and Port Elizabeth.

Joubertsdal Country Estate in Swellendam was also nominated in the Best Wedding Venue category.

The Theewaterskloof municipal district boasts the following finalists: Greyton, which was crowned as the 2021 Kwêla Dorp van die Jaar, in the Best Dorpie category, Old Mac Daddy Luxury Trailer Park outside Grabouw in the Best Hotel category, Elgin Railway Market in the Best Market category and Houwhoek and Peregrine Farm Stalls in the Farm Stall category.

Elgin Railway Market was crowned the winner of the Best Market in 2022, while Houwhoek Farm Stall was crowned the Best Farm Stall in 2021 and 2022.
