For many families who struggle to provide food for their families Easter is just another day as they have no money to provide their children with sweet treats that have become synonymous with Easter. Maria Pieterse, who runs the Mount Pleasant Saints soup kitchen, says because she is well aware of the plight of people who stand in the long queues at the soup kitchen, she has decided to do something special for the children of the area whose parents are unable to spoil them with Easter eggs. She hopes to get enough donations to make small Easter baskets for 250 children. “It would be greatly appreciated if the community of Hermanus can assist me by donating Easter eggs and hot cross buns. This will help me put smiles on some children’s faces,” said Pieterse. In addition to this, she also plans on taking 30 to 40 children on an outing to Fernkloof where they will have an Easter Egg hunt before heading to Grotto Beach. “We plan to play games and braai some sausage for the children. Postnet Hermanus has sponsored the transport, but we are still in need of sausage, hotdog rolls, paper or foam cups and plates, cooldrinks and towel roll.” Donations can be dropped off at 4 Leeubekkie Street in Mount Pleasant or at Postnet Hermanus or Post
