It is a dream come true for darts players from the Overstrand when Hermanus Darts Club launched its new premises at Hermanus Sports Club.

This event took place on 29 June and according to Jane Day, one of the committee members, it was an awe inspiring evening. “Everyone enjoyed it. They were overwhelmed by the hall and the dart boards. We are excited to offer a platform for members to compete at provincial, national and international levels. The Hermanus Darts Club aims to bring the community of Hermanus together through social fun days and specific competitive events,” she said.

This evening wasn’t only for the opening of the new premises but also the name change of the club from the White Rabbit Darts Club to Hermanus Darts Club.

“We started from humble beginnings, from a premises in Fisher Haven to the Bikers Club and then we moved to White Rabbit,” Jane said. According to her the club went from strength to strength and they are now fortunate to be part of the Hermanus Sports Club.

The hall consists of eight international approved dart boards with lights and rubber mats to which they are looking forward to invite the community to take part at the club. “We are planning some fun tournaments for the whole family like a father and son tournament and a business league. We also want to invite high school children (boys and girls) to be part of the club. They will practise with WP players and will compete against other tows,” Jane said. “We also will like to invite women to join our club. There will be training for them.”

The opening night was a fun filled event with a singles tournament and a fun board for non members to play. “It was a marvellous evening and we are so privileged to have the chairperson of the Hermanus Sports Club, Adre Smit to cut the ribbon and the original founders of the club to join us.”

The club’s future plans are to help players to compete on a national level and also to register them with Darts SA. She wants to thank the following sponsors for the ongoing help: Chass Everitt, Builders, Buco, Overberg Lighting, Coastal Trussers and O Solar.
